Need some advice here from all the experts, so called experts are welcome too:D

Anyone who knows this generation of Chevy trucks knows of the rust problem above the rear wheel wells of the box corroding from the inside.
Tried the usual method of repair. Sand or grind the paint off until new metal shows and no rust is visible. This is done on the outside of the box. Put on a nice coating of body fiberglass, sanded until nicely contoured. Put on a few light coats of primer then cover with automotive paint.
Okay so far all is fine.

Six hours later the paint is bubbled where there are tiny perforations in the metal.

Okay guys/gals, what now?
Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Carbon Fiber Corvette Parts. Well, it's not actually the real carbon fiber, they dip it in a some sort of a bath and put a coating on it.

When my wife and I priced out a new corvette with carbon fiber, it was way out of our budget. So far, I've found one company. I went ahead and bout a center console (or maybe they call it Radio center console?). Basically they take an OEM GM plastic console and dip it in a bath and apply a hydrocoating layer to make it look like real carbon fiber. So far I'm amazed at how it looks. Here is a link to the carbon fiber corvette center console.

Has anyone tried anything out besides the center console? I'm thinking of doing the entire instrument console next. Anyway, pictures would be appreciated to see how yours came out.

Thanks!

We are servicing vehicle that are 15 to 20 years old.
I amazes me that that a car in regular use can operate for 20 years..
when I started in the trade a 7 year car was scrap! Near 100,000 miles scrap.

When I say scrap, that's what I mean.. interiors were made of mohair, they disintegrated, Engines had so much piston wear that internal gas couldn't be recycled without stalling the engine.
body's rusted to hell. All this after 7 years of service.
Today they just run and run..

the President ;) of Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) has had a column for a number of years in the Toronto Star's weekly Wheels supplement in which he defends (sorry, I meant to say addresses) dealership practices. The retiring president bows out annually and is replaced by the new one :)

Question is: do these guys compose their own columns or has the same ghost writer :o provided it over the years?

Earlier this year, Omar Ramos-Lopez, a 20 year old former “Texas Auto Center” employee was laid off. Omar wasn't happy and he allegedly sought revenge.
Part Two: the dealership uses a system called “Webtech Plus” as an alternative to repossessing vehicles. Once installed the system allows the dealership to send commands to financed vehicles through a central website. The dealership can disable a vehicle or trigger the horn, as a reminder that payments are due.
Part Three: Omar allegedly he gained access to the dealership's website and started shut-downs across Austin.
Part Four: “Texas Auto Center began fielding complaints from baffled customers the last week in February, many of whom wound up missing work, calling tow trucks or disconnecting their batteries to stop the honking”.
This was the first recorded incident of abuse of this type in the ten years that this system has been in use.
Obviously; Omar was arrested and charged, but, the incident had deeper meaning. How safe are our computerized cars from intrusion and viruses? Researchers from the University of Washington and the University of California proved that they could hack into the computer systems. They gained control of vehicles and remotely had power over everything from the brakes to the radio. Rutgers University and the University of South Carolina also demonstrated the possibility of hijacking the wireless signals sent out by a car's tire pressure monitoring system, enabling hackers to monitor the movements of a vehicle.
Currently the only connection to the a downloadable virus would be through diagnostic equipment or through a re-flash (computer program update). Up till now these interactions were done with secure programing and secure test equipment, however; with the demand for more interaction between drivers and vehicles and the internet, things are changing. Many new offerings allow owners to download music, pictures and notes. Bluetooth connections, facilitated through a cell phone connection allows access into the system, plus, vehicle's may have interaction with concierge services. All these outside sourced interactions may become potential portal for a virus. So why would anyone care to engage the programing on cars?
Well; none of the scenarios are legal. Industrial spying would be the most benign. Blackmailers or terrorists could effect the safety of the fleet. Imagine a blackmailer threatening a car manufacture with mass shut-downs? Or worse yet, engage full throttle! Don't believe me? Don't think it couldn't happen?Just remember the Tylenol poisonings back in 1982. That incident caused a complete rethink in the technology of safe and tamper proof packaging. I sincerely hope that manufactures are pro-active on this potential hazard.

Virus, may definitely be on the work order in the very near future ...
